Traffic Signal at S. State Street and Martin Luther King E. to be Decommissioned

Syracuse, N.Y. – The City of Syracuse Department of Engineering will begin a decommissioning process for the traffic signal located at S. State Street and Martin Luther King E. on Monday, July 12. The change was included in the design phase of the current road reconstruction milling and paving project which runs from intersection to the N. State Street.

The change occurs on a phased basis. Traffic will be controlled by a signal in red flashing mode over the next 90 days while the change is analyzed to determine the impact of the switch. After the 90-day period, the signal will be disconnected and removed, replaced by a four-way STOP sign.

Signage will be placed at the intersection prior to the signal being converted to flash mode. The public is encouraged to contact John Kivlehan by phone at 315-448-8205 or by email at jkivlehan@syrgov.net to provide feedback or ask questions related to the change.
