Syracuse, N.Y. – New York State Senator John W. Mannion will be featured as a guest at a Zoom public forum from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday hosted by Syracuse University’s Thursday Morning Roundtable. This session will address the role of a State Senator, how the New York State legislative process works, how the New York State budget works, recent accomplishments at the state level and how to be a successful community advocate.
Senator John Mannion is a lifelong Central New Yorker. The grandchild of Irish immigrants, he grew up on Syracuse’s famous Tipperary Hill. He now resides in Geddes with his wife, Jennifer, and his three children – Jack, Quinn, and Brady.
John brings with him nearly three decades of classroom experience as a teacher in public schools. He spent his final twenty-one years as an Advanced Placement Biology teacher at the West Genesee School District. He has been a strong advocate for teachers and students, serving in the capacity of President for the West Genesee Teachers’ Association.
Utilizing his science and education background, he has and will continue to be a strong advocate for environmental protections, to assure a safe and clean environment for future generations of New Yorkers.
He has been embedded in his community, volunteering in many areas including coaching soccer, basketball and baseball. He and his family enjoy the diverse cultures and historical significance that Central New York offers.
He now represents the 50th Senate District, which encompasses part of Syracuse’s north side, as well as the towns of Camillus, Clay, DeWitt, Elbridge, Geddes, Ira, Lysander, Manlius, Marcellus, Onondaga, Otisco, Skaneateles, Spafford, and Van Buren in Onondaga County; and parts of the city of Auburn as well as the towns of Brutus, Cato, Ira and Sennett in Cayuga County.
