On Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, at approximately 3:39 P.M, Syracuse Police Officers responded to Aberdeen Apartments, located at 3101 Burnet Ave., in regards to a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a male victim, identified as Jami Crawford 46, and a female victim, identified as Alexis Sellin 32. It was evident that both had been shot several times. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. A five-year-old child was also discovered unharmed inside the same apartment at that time.
An investigation was immediately commenced by CID Homicide Unit Detectives. The attention to even the slightest detail was paramount. During the course of the investigation, numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood canvass was conducted. Physical evidence relative to the incident was collected, and search warrants were executed. As a result of the above efforts, three suspects in this investigation were identified as Jamel Weston 46 years old, Syracuse, NY, Lashaun Dixon 44 years old, Lindenwold, NJ, and Donnell Thornton, 27 years old, Solvay, NY.
On September 26th, 2022: Jamel Weston was arrested by Detectives of the SPD Homicide Unit at 555 S. State St. (Justice Center), where he was being held on unrelated narcotics charges.
October 17th, 2022: Lashaun Dixon and Donnell Thornton were arrested by SPD Homicide Unit Detectives. Dixon is on Federal Probation and was incarcerated for an unrelated gun charge at the time of his arrest. Thornton was arrested at 511 S. State St. after a brief court appearance for a separate homicide that he had been previously arrested for.
In regards to this investigation, Jamel Weston, Lashaun Dixon, and Donnell Thornton were each charged with the following crimes: One count of Murder in the First Degree; One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. All are currently lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center. This investigation is ongoing.
