On June 20th, 2022, at 9:34 P.M., Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 2000 block of Lodi Street in regard to a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located the victim, 20 year old Dasheem East, while on scene, it was evident that East had been shot. East was subsequently transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased soon thereafter.
An investigation was commenced by CID Homicide Unit detectives, where numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood and citywide canvass was conducted. In addition, several search warrants were executed, and the evidence recovered was processed and thoroughly analyzed.
As a result of the above efforts, a suspect was identified as 21-year-old Kavion Strong. On September 7th 2022 Strong was located in the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, following a domestic dispute in which police were called. He was taken into custody by Las Vegas Police without incident.
Strong was taken into custody by SPD Warrant Squad detectives in Las Vegas on September 22nd, 2022 and transported to Syracuse NY where he was arraigned on September 23rd, 2022. Strong was later lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he is currently being held.
In regard to this investigation, Kavion Strong was charged with the following crimes:
One count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
