Syracuse Police Makes Arrest in Shaheem Grant Homicide Investigation

September 21, 2019 at 4:53 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Salina Street, in regards to a shooting with injuries call.  When Officers arrived they located the victim, Shaheem Grant, 26, who had been shot.  Grant’s condition was determined to be life threatening, and he was subsequently transported to University Hospital by AMR paramedics for emergency treatment of his injuries.

An investigation was immediately commenced by Detectives in our Criminal Investigations Division on September 21, 2019,.  Detectives interviewed multiple people and an extensive neighborhood canvas was conducted.  In addition, physical evidence relative to the incident was collected, and search warrants were executed.  As a result of the investigation, Detectives identified a sixteen year-old as the suspect.

September 23, 2019, Grant ultimately succumbed to injuries, and was pronounced dead.

September 25, 2019, the sixteen year-old was located in the 100 block of Croton Terrace and was taken into custody without incident.  The sixteen year-old suspect was charged with one count of murder in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the Second Degree.  The sixteen year-old has been remanded to the Hillbrook Detention Center.  The investigation is still continuing.
