Syracuse Peace Council: Central New Yorkers to March for Peace – Stop the War in Ukraine

Gathering: Forman Park, 717 E. Genesee St. Sunday, March 6, 12:30 pm

Rally at Syracuse Federal Building, 100 S. Clinton St., at 1:30 pm

On Sunday, March 6, Central New Yorkers will march and rally to call for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine. They will gather at 12:30 pm at Forman Park, and march to the Federal Building for a rally beginning at 1:30 pm.  The event is organized by the Syracuse Peace Council in collaboration with a wide range of individuals and organizations who wish to express solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call for the end of this brutal war.

“We call on everyone who opposes the war on Ukraine to join us in solidarity with the Global Day of Action and opposition to war,” notes Rae Kramer an organizer with the Syracuse Peace Council. “The war in Ukraine is a disaster for the people of Ukraine and is a threat to us all, including by elevating the dangerous likelihood of nuclear war,” she continues.

The marchers will call for:

  • an immediate ceasefire, and the withdrawal of Russian troops
  • an end to NATO expansion and recognition that the aggressive approach of Western states has contributed to the crisis
  • raising questions about how innocent Russians are impacted by the broad sanctions imposed to pressure Putin and Russian leadership
  • the United States and other countries to welcome all refugees fleeing the war and provide humanitarian assistance.

“We are inspired by war resisters and peace activists in both Ukraine and Russia and those taking action against the war in the U.S. and around the world,” says Peace Council staff organizer Carol Baum. “In order to stop this bloodshed, we need a unified response by peace-loving people to say “No to War in Ukraine, Yes to Negotiations and Peace.”

A rally with several speakers, including Ukrainian-Americans will begin at 1:30 pm at the James Hanley Federal Building, 100 S. Clinton St.

People are encouraged to dress appropriately for the expected rain and to practice common-sense COVID protocols.
