Syracuse City School District Elementary School Recognized as LEED Certified

The Syracuse City School District is pleased to announce that Bellevue Elementary School has been recognized as its newest LEED-certified building.

Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED-certified buildings meet certain criteria proving energy efficiency and environmental and social responsibility. Bellevue is recognized for meeting criteria which address its construction, as well as its carbon, energy, water, and waste systems. The certification is a result of building upgrades and improvements that were made possible through the Joint Schools Construction Board (JSCB) Phase 3 project.

“We are incredibly proud that Bellevue Elementary School has been recognized as LEED certified,” Superintendent Jaime Alicea said. “The health and safety of our students and staff has always been a priority in the SCSD. Thanks to JSCB funding, we are pleased to have been able to make important changes in the construction and operation of Bellevue to ensure that it operates as an energy efficient, environmentally friendly building. I appreciate the team at Stieglitz Snyder Architecture, who assisted our SCSD Facilities team and the City Engineer’s Office through this process. We will strive to ensure that our Syracuse City School District schools and facilities continue to evolve in ways that benefit the health of our students, staff, families and community.”

Bellevue now becomes the SCSD’s fifth LEED certified building, joining Dr. Weeks Elementary, HW Smith Pre-K-8 School, ITC and PSLA at Fowler, which are all LEED Silver certified.
