SNM to present 16th Vision of Sound: New Music with Modern Dance

Syracuse, NY, February 10, 2022The Society for New Music presents the 2022 Vision of Sound, a concert of New Music and Dance as part of the organization’s 50th Season: Discovering Gold. The performance will take place at Carrier Theatre, Civic Center on February 26th at 4:00 PM.

The program showcases a collaboration between Upstate New York composers and choreographers, and their artistic visions are brought to the stage by acclaimed musicians and movement artists. Vision of Sound, now in its 16th season, is a feast for the senses.

This season, new works have been inspired by such topics as the cosmos, truthfulness, claustrophobia, and western NY winters. Featured are PREMIERES by Christopher Cresswell, Loren Loiacono, and Mark Watters, with additional works by Diane Jones, Evis Sammoutis, and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez. The composers serve on the faculties of Onondaga Community College, Syracuse University, Eastman School of Music & Ithaca College.

Performing as SOCIETY PLAYERS are Rob Auler, piano; John Friedrichs, clarinets; David Fulmer, violin; and Zachary Sweet, cello.

Choreographers include Pralaya Cuomo, Dominique Dawkins, Caitlin Mahan, Katherine Marino, Solange Rodriguez, and Aldo Santiago, who represent a small portion of the gifted professionals heading the regional dance companies, faculty and free-lance movement artists from Brockport to Syracuse and beyond, e.g. Roc City Circus and Nazareth College in Rochester, Dominique’s Dance Creations & Syracuse City Ballet.

The program was curated by Alaina Olivieri, Mark Olivieri, Neva Pilgrim, and Octavio Vazquez. A repeat performance will be held in Linehan Chapel at Nazareth College, Rochester, NY on February 27th at 2:00 PM. Those with a valid Nazareth College ID admitted free.

Those wishing to see the performance should purchase a ticket via Stripe on SNM’s website, www.societyfornewmusic.org, and pick it up at the door. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors/students, 18 and under free. Those under 18 should email snm@societyforenewmusic.org to have their name put on the list for a ticket.

Proof of vaccination or a negative test is required to enter the theater, all masked.

Based in Syracuse, NY, the Society for New Music commissions, performs, and records new works by regional composers, catalyzes artistic connections across Central NY, and expands the audience for new music.
