Shots Fired into Upstairs Apartment Leads to Reckless Endangerment Arrest

On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, at around 11:41 P.M., Officer J. Forrester and others, responded to an apartment building in the 900 block of Park Ave. for a shots fired complaint. Upon arrival, the landlord of the building told the Officer that a resident in a downstairs apartment had shot off a gun, and the round went into another apartment upstairs. The Officer spoke with the resident in the upstairs apartment, who said they were watching football when they heard a loud noise and saw smoke coming from the dining room. The resident showed the Officer where the round entered the apartment through the dining room floor, and also struck the blinds.

Officer Forrester then spoke with the downstairs neighbor, Nicholas Gericke, 26. Gericke stated that he had a Remington 12 gauge pump action shotgun. When he was putting the gun away, Gericke said it went off, causing the shot to be fired into the upstairs apartment.

Gericke was charged and booked for Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a class D felony.
