Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 12:01 am this morning, The Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 355 Mildred Avenue. The first fire units arrived on scene in under three minutes to find heavy fire showing from the upper floor of a 2.5 story wood frame residential structure. Five occupants evacuated the structure fire prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Once on scene, fire crews immediately began attacking the fire and conducting searches of the structure for any other occupants. The bulk of the fire was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes and searches for any other occupants of the home were negative. Several fire units remained on scene for several hours to conduct salvage and overhaul operations. A total of 35 firefighters responded to the fire scene.
The Syracuse Fire Investigation Bureau is on scene investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The Red Cross was called to the scene to provide assistance to the five occupants of the home. Syracuse Police and National Grid also responded to the scene.
