Second Arrest Made in Shakeale Hill Homicide Investigation

December 18th, 2021, at around 10:15 P.M.:  Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 1100 block of W. Colvin Street in regards to a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a shooting victim, 29 year old Shakeale Hill.  It was evident that he had been shot. Hill was subsequently transported to Upstate Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

December 18th, 2021 – Present: An investigation was commenced by CID Homicide Unit detectives where numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood canvass was conducted. In addition, several search warrants were executed, and evidence recovered was processed and thoroughly analyzed.

As a result of the above efforts, a second suspect was identified as 32 year old, Lionel Brown.

April 5th, 2022:  Brown was located in the 600 block of Pond Street, where he was taken into custody by SPD Homicide Unit detectives without incident. He was later lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center.

In regards to this investigation, Brown was charged with the following crimes:

  • One count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
  • A second individual, identified as 31 year old Jaquell L. Bailey, was previously arrested for this incident as well.  Both individuals have been charged with Hill’s murder.
