Syracuse, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $88,000 in CARES Act funding will be awarded to Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse. As the first museum to house a collection of only American art, the Everson Museum is a vital part of the downtown Syracuse and is a critical resource for local students through its broad range of educational programming.
The funding is available through the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) CARES Act Grants Program. This program, administered using funds provided under the CARES Act, bipartisan legislation Rep. Katko supported in the House, provides museums and libraries with the necessary resources to continue serving communities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Everson Museum of Art will use this award to expand its online programming, allowing families to safely experience the Museum’s attractions on virtual platforms.
“I’m pleased to announce the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse has received $88,000 in funding from the IMLS CARES Act Grant Program,” said Rep. Katko. “Through its exhibitions, classes, and programs, the Everson Museum enriches our community and serves as an invaluable resource to local students. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Museum has been unable to engage as many individuals. To improve accessibility amid this crisis, these new funds will enable the Museum to expand its online and virtual programming. In doing so, Central New Yorkers from across our region will be able to safely experience the Everson Museum from home.”
