Rep. Katko Announces $500,000 in Infrastructure Funding to Support Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, City of Auburn

Syracuse, New York — U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) this morning announced that, with his advocacy, the City of Auburn has been awarded $500,000 in Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) funding for infrastructure improvements.

“It is critical that we invest in and support the infrastructure in our region, and I’m proud to deliver this funding to support the ongoing revitalization and tourism efforts in City of Auburn,” said Rep. John Katko.  “With this award, $500,000 will be provided directly to the South Street Corridor Enhancement project.  This project addresses the infrastructure needs of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and local businesses that help support our growing tourism-based economy in Auburn.”

The funding provided is for the South Street Corridor Enhancement project, which will replace 2,500 linear feet of 40- year-old 6″ water main along NYS Route 34 and replace it with a 12″ water main increasing capacity to the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park and area businesses that support tourism development in Cayuga County.

The NBRC is an economic development partnership between the federal government and regional state and local governments designed to help reduce economic distress and encourage private-sector job creation throughout designated northern counties of New York, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.  Last year, Rep. Katko announced that, because of his efforts, Wayne County was added to a list of counties in New York State eligible for Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) funding opportunities. In NY-24, Cayuga, Wayne, and Oswego Counties are eligible to receive NBRC funding.
