Ada Salas was born in Cáceres, Spain in 1965. She has published the following books of poetry: Arte y memoria del inocente (1988, University of Extremadura, “Juan Manuel Rozas” award) Variaciones en blanco (1994, Hiperión, “Hiperión” award) La sed (1997, Hiperión) Noticia de la luz (2003, Escuela de arte de Mérida), Lugar de la derrota (2003, Hiperión), Esto no es el silencio (2008, Hiperión, “Ciudad de Córdoba” award), No duerme el animal (2009, Hiperión)—a collection of most of her previously published poetry—Limbo y otros poemas (Pre-Textos, 2013) and Descendimiento (Pre-Textos, 2018). Also, in collaboration with photographer Tete Alejandre she published Reflejos (2006). The books Ashes to Ashes (Editora Regional de Extremadura, 2011) and Diez Mandamientos (La Oficina ediciones, 2016) are the fruit of her work with painter Jesús Plancencia.
In 2016 the press Fondo de Cultura Económica published the anthology Escribir y borrar that also includes a selection of her essays. Highlights of her prose work about poetic writing are the books Alguien aquí (Hiperión, 2005), El margen, el error, la tachadura (de la metáfora y otros asuntos más o menos poéticos) (Diputación de Badajoz, Best Essay Award “Fernando Pérez”, 2011) and Lengua del alma (“Poética y Poesía”, Fundación Juan March, 2019).
In 2019 she was awarded the “Medalla de Extremadura” for her body of work.
Together with Juan Abeleira she has translated A la Misteriosa and Las tinieblas by Robert Desnos (Hiperión).
Three of her books have been translated to Swedish and an anthology of her work has been translated to Italian.
