Onondaga County Office for Aging – Institute for Caregivers Zoom Class – THIS THURSDAY – 06/16/2022 – Prepare to Care – Caregiving 10

Onondaga County Office for Aging is pleased to announce a zoom class for those who currently care for older, or disabled persons, or may become caregivers in the future. This LIVE, video presentation is open to the public.

Prepare to Care – Caregiving 101

Description: No matter where you are in the journey of family caregiving – just beginning to anticipate a need or taking care of a family member full-time – having a good framework to help guide both you and your loved one will make the process easier.

This class focuses on helping individuals make plans to care for friends, family members or loved ones, using the AARP 5-Step Prepare to Care Guide for caregivers which include:

  • Information on how to have vital conversations
  • Ways to build a caregiving team
  • Make a caregiving plan that you can adjust over time
  • Accessing support from other caregivers and professionals
  • Information on caring for yourself
  • Checklists, medication charts and contact lists

Presenters:

Patrick Fox – Patrick holds a Bachelor’s in Theology and a Masters in Adult Learning. Although now retired, he worked for 42 years as an Educator and Administrator and served as a Safe Driver Instructor, Lead Legislative District Volunteer and as Chair and Presenter for Upstate NY Speakers Bureau Patrick has been a Volunteer with AARP since 2014.

Nancy Ketz – Nancy has been an AARP volunteer, both as a Legislative Lead and a Speakers’ Bureau presenter for the past 16 years following a 35-year career as a foreign language teacher. She spent 12 years as a family caregiver, and is now active as the president of MVILR (Learning in Retirement) and on the board of Central NY Arts.
