NYS Dept. of Labor: Operating Engineers Recruit Apprentices
CONSTANTIA, NY (readMedia) The Engineers Joint Training Fund, IUOE Local 545, will conduct apprentice recruitment from June 4 through June 15 for three operating engineers (heavy equipment operator), State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today. Applications can be obtained in person only at the local, 814 County Route 23, Constantia, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The committee requires that applicants:

Be at least 18 years old.

Have a high school or general equivalency diploma

Must score at least 40 on the questionnaire provided by the sponsor in the requirements.

Live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction — Cayuga, Cortland, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Seneca and Tompkins Counties; and part of Herkimer County.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the local at 315-492-4725.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.

Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
