NYPD Lieutenant, Syracuse Police Chief Buckner, and Assemblywoman Hunter Headline Onondaga Community College Symposium on Race and Policing

On Friday April 30, 1pm-4pm – A semester-long discussion titled “Race and Policing in America” will culminate Friday April 30 with a symposium, “Change Is Going To Come.” The event will begin at 1 p.m. and is open virtually to the public. Scheduled to participate in the symposium are:

  • Kishon Hickman, NYPD Lieutenant
  • Kenton Buckner, Syracuse Police Chief
  • Pamela Hunter, New York State Assemblywoman
  • Yusuf Abdul-Qadir, Lead Organizer Syracuse Police Accountability and Reform Coalition
  • Ranette Releford, Citizen Review Board Administrator
  • Dave Wall, Retired Onondaga Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy and current OCC Criminal Justice Professor

The semester-long conversation included three presentations and question-and-answer sessions which were recorded and can be viewed on a special web page dedicated to the series.

The four faculty members who have led the conversations are Professor Karen Harrison, Professor Pete Patnode, Professor Tara Ross, and Professor Jessica Wieczorek.
