Syracuse, N.Y. – Mayor Ben Walsh, Parks Commissioner Julie LaFave, and Common Council Parks Chair Rasheada Caldwell and Eastwood Neighborhood Association President Jimmy Monto welcomed community members on August 10 for the unveiling of the new playground at Norwood Park, located at 393 Ashdale Ave, on the eastside of Syracuse.
“Safe, accessible, and well-maintained parks and recreational areas are essential to our residents’ quality of life,” said Mayor Walsh. “Inviting residents to play an active role in shaping these spaces in their neighborhoods is what creates better communities.”
The City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs committed $150,000 towards the project and hosted several public engagement meetings with Eastwood neighbors to gather feedback on play features most important to the area.
“The Eastwood community spoke, and we listened,” said Commissioner LaFave. “This new and updated playground provides one more opportunity for children to get outside and play in our parks. This is what our department strives to do.”
The new playground, designed by Parkitects, purchased from Landscape Structures and installed by Terlouw Construction, features vibrant colors and many play features. The play equipment is geared towards children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12.
