Citizens Academy is searching for its next stellar class of 2019!

The 2019 session will run for eight Wednesday evenings from Sept. 4 through Nov. 6, 2019 (optional event Oct. 2, no class on Oct. 9). The class is held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a supper provided at various county- and city-operated facilities throughout the community. Each night, there will be government officials and representatives to discuss challenges and opportunities their departments are facing and to answer participants’ questions.
Now in its 15th year with over 400 graduates, FOCUS Greater Syracuse and Syracuse University are now accepting applications for the 2019 Citizens Academy Class
Topics that will be covered include:
Community Vitality; Economic Vitality; Environmental Stewardship; Schools, Scholars and Resources; Public Safety; Planning, Land Use and Transportation;
Local Government Budget and Finance; and the Organization of Local Government.
Class is limited to 35 members
- Open to all who live or work in Onondaga County and are 18 years of age or older
- Class enrollment fee is $50
- (two $25 payments due by Sept. 1 and Oct. 1)
- Limited scholarships are available upon request

Citizens Academy is a collaboration between the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, Syracuse University and FOCUS Greater Syracuse to inform citizens about how local governments are organized and how services are funded and delivered.
