House Fire Reported on South Geddes Street

Syracuse, N.Y. – At 7:56 P.M. Dec. 27th the Syracuse Fire Department was called to 1307 South Geddes Street for a reported house fire.  The first fire companies were on scene in just three minutes, and observed thick smoke issuing from several areas of the two-story structure.  After gaining entry, firefighters encountered a significant volume fire on the first floor.  They immediately began working to extinguish the flames while simultaneously searching the building for any occupants that might be trapped.

It took approximately twenty minutes to bring the fire under control, and the damage to the house is significant.  Everyone home at the time of the fire was able to escape prior to the fire department’s arrival.  No injuries were reported.  The local chapter of the American Red Cross will be assisting displaced occupants with temporary shelter and other needs.  AMR, the Syracuse Police Department and National Grid also responded to the incident.  Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

This was the 75th major structure fire in the city of Syracuse this year.
