Join the Everson Museum of Art for their Free Fall Community Day featuring family hip-hop workshops led by dancers from Los Angeles-based street dance troupe, Versa-Style. Edward Tulane is a very vain yet dapper china rabbit. A birthday present for a 10-year-old girl Abilene, he cares more about what he wears than the little girl who loves him. Lost at sea during an ocean voyage, Edward spends decades on a journey being passed from person to person and learns what it is to love, what it is to lose that love, and how to find the courage to love again. Based on Kate DiCamillo’s beautiful novel of the same name, it is a classic tale using music and fantastical storytelling to engage young audiences. Following the performances, guests will hear about ceramic animals in the Everson Museum’s collection and will be able to participate in a themed art-making session!

Designer and artist Carolynn Lemke will be drawing custom pet portraits live outside of the museum entrance. Bring your furry friend themselves or a photo of them for best results. First come first serve! Participants will receive a digital portrait of their pet sent right to their phone after the drawing is done!

Inspired by the dapper rabbit in Syracuse Stage’s production of Edward Tulane, the mysterious rat in Syracuse Opera’s production of Mystery on the Docks, and the rare orchids in Rebecca Hutchinson’s exhibition Re-Generation, the Onondaga County Library will be doing a plant & animal themed story time sessions throughout the Free Fall Community Day in the sculpture court!

In the spirit of film noir and detective stories of the 40s and 50s, Edward Barnes’ Mystery on the Docks combines singing and comfort food with a dash of intrigue. When international opera star, Edwina Bombastina, goes missing, it’s up to short-order cook and opera superfan, Ralph, to whip up a plan to save her. But when Ralph runs out of ideas, will Edwina’s suggestion get them out of their jam? Syracuse Opera invites you to Pier 46 in Ratville for a story of blue-plate special friendship and reliance on your inner voice in times of trouble until things are shipshape again.
