Town of Clay, New York – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sheriff’s Deputies have charged a man with DWI after he crashes his vehicle into a utility pole in the Town of Clay.
This morning at approximately 1:56 A.M., sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Gaskin Road near Oswego Road, which involved a vehicle that struck two utility poles and rolled over. Deputies investigating the crash say the driver of a 2009 Honda sedan, identified as Brae Berardi (24) of VanBuren, had been traveling south on Oswego Road when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the roadway. The Honda continued to travel onto the cross street of Gaskin Road where it struck two utility poles and a mailbox before rolling over and coming to rest on its roof top.
The impact from the collision caused significant damage to the Honda and the utility poles. Berardi was not injured in the crash and was determined to be intoxicated. Deputies charged him with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher, failure to maintain lane/driving across hazard markings and speeding. A passenger in the vehicle, a 25 year old female, was transported to Upstate University Hospital after complaining of chest pains.
Berardi was processed and released and is expected to appear before a judge in the Town of Clay Court on September 22nd at 4:30 P.M.
Gaskin Road near Oswego Road was closed for several hours while crews from National Grid made repairs. The road has since reopened.
