DPW and Department of Engineering will reconstruct at least 24 miles of city streets in 2022- See Links for detailed Interactive Map

Links include Interactive Map detailing the city’s progress towards reconstructing 24 miles of city streets

The road reconstruction projects will be completed by the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW), Department of Engineering, and its contractors, using both state and federal funds.

The plan includes reconstruction of at least 24 miles of roads, with projects in every quadrant of the city.

Dig Once projects signify an enhanced level of coordination with utility providers (water, sewer, telecommunication, gas, etc.) with the goal of replacing and repairing as much underground infrastructure as possible to minimize any future excavations made in newly paved roads.

Road Reconstruction Projects – City of Syracuse

Butternut Dig-Once Project from Grant Boulevard to Hillside Street

The project includes “full depth” reconstruction of the road along Butternut Street between Butternut Circle and Hillside Street; including new asphalt pavement, new sidewalks, replacement of water mains and lead water services, and rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure. It will also include a new traffic management plan for the intersection of Butternut Street and Grant Boulevard, as well as beautification of the center green space at the intersection.

Crews will begin the water main portion of the project this winter. Work began late last fall on sewer infrastructure in the area. Traffic will remain open on Butternut Street during the work. Residents will receive advance notification of any project impacts on neighboring properties.

West Genesee Street from North Salina Street to the City of Syracuse-Town of Geddes line

The City of Syracuse Department of Water is installing a new water main pipe on West Genesee Street from North Salina Street to North Clinton Street north of Clinton Square in Downtown. Work will begin Monday, May 9 and is expected to last a few weeks. The westbound lane of West Genesee Street from North Salina Street to North Clinton Street will be closed to traffic until the project is complete.

This work by the Department of Water is the first of many planned projects by multiple City departments for the West Genesee Dig Once project that will continue until the fall. Dig Once projects signify an enhanced level of coordination with utility providers (water, sewer, telecommunication, gas, etc.) with the goal of replacing and repairing as much underground infrastructure as possible to minimize any future excavations made in newly paved roads.
