Syracuse, N.Y. – At 4:04 a.m. on December 30th crews were called to 1920 Park Street for a reported structure fire. The first units were on scene in just 3 minutes, and found a 4-story warehouse with a large volume of fire showing. The first-arriving District Chief immediately requested a second alarm assignment, which brought more than 50 firefighters to the scene. Upon entering the building, crews encountered heavy fire conditions and significant clutter. It took them well over an hour to bring the blaze under control. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. National Grid, AMR, and the Syracuse Police Department also responded to the scene.
Freezing temperatures, boarded-up windows, and large amounts of debris in the building made fighting this fire very challenging.
