Syracuse, N.Y. – At 10:31 P.M. Oct. 20th firefighters were called to 163 Holland Street, between Congress Avenue and Sheridan Drive, for a reported house fire. The first units were on the scene in approximately two minutes, and found smoke coming from the rear of the two-story single-family dwelling. After gaining entry, crews encountered high heat and zero visibility. There was a significant volume of fire on the first floor.
Firefighters immediately began working to extinguish the flames while searching the house for victims. A hole was cut in the roof to help remove the smoke and heat. After a thorough search, it was determined that no one was trapped inside. It took more than twenty minutes to fully extinguish the fire.
AMR, the Syracuse Police Department, and National Grid also responded to the scene. Members of the Fire Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. None of the neighboring homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
