Charles Pierce to announce candidacy for 4th Council District

Charles Pierce is announcing his candidacy on the Syracuse Common Council from the fourth district. He will be participating in a primary election for the Democratic Party. He has been a community volunteer for three decades with extensive experience working with boards of directors, volunteers, and staff of many not-for-profit organizations. His primary interest in seeking this position is to help bring prosperity and growth back to the city that we all love. He expects to work collaboratively with people of diverse opinions and ideas to forge consensus on the difficult and contentious issues that will face the city. He looks upon this office as an opportunity to continue his long time commitment to community service.

Charlie was born in Syracuse. He has lived with his wife Thelma in the same house on Elk Street for almost 30 years. He is 60 years old and has been retired for five years, having worked at New Venture Gear (Division of Chrysler) for over three decades as a truck driver, machine operator, inspector, and dispatcher.

At the present time, he serves on two local boards of directors: the Vivian Teal Howard Health Facility and Syracuse Juneteenth Committee. He previously served on the board of the Faith Hope Community Center.

Charlie has also participated in volunteer activities for the Syracuse American Bowling Congress, CAP Committee and Human Rights Committee for UAW Local #624, Syracuse TNT, Southside Neighborhood Action Group, Syracuse United Neighbors, Southside Homeowners Association, Henry Moore Working Group, Southside Coalition and the 19th ward and city democratic committees. In 2004 he was honored to receive the Post Standard Achievement Award for community service. Also in 2004, he received the Syracuse Council of Negro Women Award for youth advocacy. In 2006, he received the Aaron Banks Martial Artists’ Award for community involvement. He is the co-founder of Saving our Society, a youth advocacy organization.

Charlie will be holding a press conference on Saturday, July 7th at his campaign headquarters at 2312 S. Salina Street (next to People’s AME Church). Press conference will start at Noon and last for 30 minutes including ten minutes of Q&A for the media.
