Bitdefender Threat Scanner Review

Bitdefender is one of the best antivirus scanners for Mac that consistently delivers top malware detection rates and an array of other helpful security features. However, the application isn’t without its imperfections.

The default interface is simple to navigate and organizes features into three categories: Privacy, Protection, and Utilities. The Protection tab is mostly devoted to features you’d expect from an antivirus program, such as real-time scanning, firewall monitoring, and countermeasures against ransomware. The Privacy tab provides ways to remain safe on the internet, including an encrypted web browser which runs websites in an sandbox to block malware from infecting your regular browser. And the Utilities tab is about optimization tools as well as an application that shreds files with a unique algorithm which render them unrecoverable if they are deleted.

Other features are available in premium plans, like a useful password manager as well as an Anti-Tracker solution that can prevent excessive tracking by a variety of web-based services. The program comes with a vulnerability scanner that can detect obsolete applications and passwords that are weak or insecure, as well as Windows updates that aren’t applied. It also offers a fast customized scan that takes five minutes to complete, which is much faster than other competitors like Norton and TotalAV.

The only issue with the app is its slow installation that can be a pain for users who want to get started this hyperlink immediately. The “Reveal in the Finder” feature of the app isn’t working. This is a strange oversight in an antivirus app which competes with other products which can accomplish the same task with just a few simple clicks.
