Mayor’s Biography
Stephanie A. Miner is the 53rd Mayor of the City of Syracuse, elected to a four-year term beginning January 1, 2010. She was born in Syracuse and was raised in a family of five children in Central New York. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1992, Stephanie served as a regional representative for then-Governor Mario Cuomo. In 1999, Stephanie received her J.D. from SUNY Buffalo and joined the law firm of Blitman & King, specializing in labor law, employment law and the Employment Retirement Income Security Act. She became a partner at Blitman & King in 2005.
Stephanie was elected Common Councilor-at-Large in 2001 and re-elected in 2005. She chaired the Council’s Education and Human Development Committee in 2008 and 2009, and was chair of the Finance Committee from 2002 to 2007. Stephanie drafted, co-sponsored, and helped pass the Say Yes to Education legislation that provided $1 million for the program. She has advocated for day care initiatives, childcare initiatives and pre-kindergarten funding. In 2009, Stephanie co-sponsored legislation that provided $250,000 to the Syracuse City School District to provide funding for additional Pre-K spots. Stephanie is a former board member of the Onondaga County Child Care Council, the United Way and the Redhouse. Stephanie and her husband Jack make their home on the city’s east side.
