Syracuse, New York – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) – operator of Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) – has released the following statement regarding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system outage which caused nationwide impacts to flights this morning.

At approximately 6:30 am on Wednesday, January 11th, the FAA notified airports that their Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system had experienced an outage. This outage disrupted flights across the National Airspace System, including here at SYR. At 9:00 am, the FAA permitted flights at most airports to resume. Some flights to higher density airports are still being delayed at their point of departure as of this statement.

So far today at SYR, 22 commercial passenger and cargo flights have experienced delays and 5 flights have been cancelled as a result of this outage. Throughout the outage, the airport terminal building remained fully open and operational with full food and beverage amenities available to delayed travelers.

The SRAA highly encourages all travelers to confirm their flight’s status directly with their airline as the impacts from this morning’s outage may linger into the days ahead.
