At Syracuse University, Rep. Katko Applauds Micron Technology Investment in Central New York

$100 Billion Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant Announcement Follows Longtime Katko Advocacy, Support for CHIPS Plus Act

Syracuse, NY – Standing at Syracuse University alongside local leaders, U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today applauded the historic announcement that Micron Technology, Inc. will make a $100 billion investment to construct a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing plant at the White Pine Commerce Park in Clay:

Rep. John Katko

“Today’s announcement from Micron Technology represents one of the most significant investments ever made in the economic development of our region. I am proud to have both supported legislation in Congress and worked alongside leaders in our community to help attract a major semiconductor manufacturer to our region.

“When I first ran for Congress, I frequently talked about the importance of strengthening the manufacturing industry in Central New York. The need for U.S. investment in semiconductor manufacturing presented a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase the competitiveness of our region for this type of investment.

“I was a staunch advocate in Congress for the CHIPS Plus Act, which was signed into law over the summer and paved the way for today’s announcement. It delivered a $50 billion investment to incentivize domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The bill also included a provision I put forward to provide a 25% tax credit for American chip manufacturers.

“Micron Technology’s investment is a game changer for Central New York. It will create thousands of good-paying local jobs, jumpstart our regional economy, and make Central New York a more attractive place to work, live, and raise a family. Producing this technology in the United States will help secure our supply chain and avoid future disruptions.

“I applaud the many local leaders that have worked for years to turn the possibility of this investment into reality. I am proud to join them in welcoming Micron Technology to our community and ushering in a brand new day for manufacturing in Central New York.”
