SYR Fourth of July Holiday Travel Tips

Syracuse, New York –The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today tips to assist Fourth of July holiday travelers at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR).

From Thursday, June 30th through Tuesday, July 5th, the airport is expecting over 27,700 passengers to board flights at SYR – a 6% increase compared to 2019, which was the busiest year in three decades at the airport.

Travelers who are driving to the airport and leaving their vehicle are strongly encouraged to Pre- Book their parking. Travelers who have not pre-booked parking are encouraged to monitor the airport’s official Facebook and Twitter feeds for any parking updates, if needed, during the Fourth of July stretch.

In preparation for increased passenger volume and subsequent parking demand, the airport recently expanded customer parking capacity by 470 spaces.

“We cannot stress enough the importance of travelers arriving to the airport two hours prior to their scheduled departure,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “We want our customers to have the best airport customer experience possible, and it all starts with having enough time to enjoy the amenities our airport has to offer.”

Local Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials recommend arriving to the airport two hours prior to a traveler’s scheduled departure and being at the TSA security checkpoint no less than 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure. Peak TSA checkpoint traffic at SYR generally occurs between 4:30 am – 6:00 am, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Travelers with questions about what can and cannot pass through the TSA security checkpoint are encouraged to use the agency’s popular “Ask TSA” social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

Drivers picking up arriving passengers are asked to follow the color-coded signs directing drivers to each terminal’s pick-up areas at the outer curb lines of the airport, adjacent each terminal. To protect the safety of pedestrians and motorists, drivers are not permitted to sit and wait along the side of Col. Eileen Collins Blvd. The front curb line of the airport is reserved for drop offs only.
