$15 million to be invested to bridge digital divide
Syracuse, N.Y. – Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon today applauded the legislature for releasing fifteen million dollars in funding for broadband in Onondaga County.
County Executive McMahon said, “We have always known there has been a digital divide in our County, especially in our rural communities. This divide was exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic making things like school and work even more challenging for thousands of families. With the release of these funds, our team will immediately issue a Request for Proposals to procure a company that will finally bring broadband to our suburban and rural communities and bridge the digital divide.”
McMahon continued, “I want to specifically thank Legislators Abbott and Knapp for their advocacy and leadership on this important issue.”
The fifteen million dollar investment by Onondaga County will focus on building infrastructure and high speed internet services to the unserved areas of our county. The project will also bring high speed internet, including low income plans to lower income residents of our rural communities.
