For the past 39 years, ACR Health has been on the front line fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic, providing support and services to its victims. According to HCR Health, approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. have HIV and about 13 percent of them don’t know they are infected and need testing. In 2020, an estimated 1,467 new HIV infections occurred in New York State. However, the number of new HIV numbers in the state declined 48 percent between 2010-2020. ACR Health Executive Director Lisa Alford said these numbers are just some of the reasons why ACR Health services are essential for the community.

“This event is monumental in supporting the many programs we provide as well as HIV/AIDS assistance,” said Alford. “It will help us to continue to offer all of the necessary services to keep moving our community forward.”

All proceeds from the Walk/Run will stay within Central New York and benefit all programs provided by ACR Health, including the Q Center, addiction, sexual health, adolescent health, prevention services, health insurance/counseling, care management, rent assistance, transportation, and more. All services are free to the public.

Alford said the event sponsors are a huge part of why they can continue to serve those in need. Sponsors for the 30th annual AIDS 5K Walk/Run include Gilead Science, Allyn Foundation, The Gifford Foundation, Excellus, CNY Community Foundation, Syracuse University, Wegmans, Fleet Feet, Fidelis, and Hueber-Breuer Construction Co.

“After two years of the virtual world, we are ecstatic about holding the Walk/Run in person, as well as offering a virtual option. We are optimistic about how much this year’s fundraiser will impact the people we serve.”

ARC Health staff anticipates between 300-500 participants and is actively seeking volunteers and sponsors. To register for this event, visit www.runsignup.com/race/ny/Baldwinsville/AIDS5k
