The Red House Arts Center in association with Joseph L. Edwards presents Fly-a One Man Show During Omega Psi Phi Centennial Week

Fly was originally produced Off-Broadway at the American Place Theater

Four Performances Scheduled during Omega Psi Phi Kappa Chapter Centennial Week

A Son of Syracuse, Joseph L. Edwards, comes back to perform his award winning play, Fly, as part of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Centennial Celebration. The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Centennial Celebration will take place from April 22nd-24th, 2022. This celebration represents 100 years of scholarship, community service and brotherhood at Syracuse University. The Red House Arts Center in association with Joseph L. Edwards will present FOUR shows during this Centennial week.

About The Play

Fly was originally produced Off-Broadway at the American Place Theater, directed by Wynn Handman, and was the winner of three AUDELCO Awards for excellence in Black Theater.

Synopsis: Fly, an African American man, believes he will receive the power to fly on the night of a cosmic event that will send transforming energy to the planet Earth. As he sanctifies a Brooklyn rooftop, he spins the hilarious and dramatic tales that have brought him to the edge of reality.

About Joseph Lewis Edwards
Actor, Playwright, and Educator

Joseph is a 1983 graduate of Syracuse University’s Crouse College of Fine Arts. His work as an actor and playwright has been showcased on film, television, and stage.

His stage adaptation of the classic autobiography of Claude Brown’s Manchild In The Promised Land, originally produced at the American Place Theatre, was nominated for an AUDELCO Award for excellence in Black theater and was performed for more than twenty thousand students in New York City and internationally.

Joseph L. Edwards

Joseph won three AUDELCO awards for his critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of FLY, also presented at the National Black Theater Festival in North Carolina and at the HBO Performance Space in Los Angeles.

He has worked with Viola Davis, the late Chadwick Boseman, Chris Rock, Dennis Leary, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, and has guest starred on Law and Order, Law and Order SVU, Rescue Me and the Netlfix series Dare Devil.

He is a 2022 recipient of the Arizona Commission on the Arts Research & Development Grant that will help him develop his one-man multimedia show, The Reparations Project, scheduled to be produced in 2023. He is also a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Performances run from April 20th thru April 23rd.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Endowed Scholarship Fund.
