CNYRTA/Centro Announcement of Vacant Position Fleet Manager – Second Shift (Syracuse)

DEPARTMENT:  Maintenance, Central New York Regional Transportation Authority

SALARY RANGE:  Grade 6 – $ 58,910-72,154

Note:  Starting salary is determined by evaluation of experience and qualifications for the position.

JOB SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for supervising personnel involved in diagnosing and correcting mechanical problems for the bus fleet.  Position is non-exempt. 

MAJOR DUTIES: 

  1. Ensures that shift is adequately staffed; calls in additional personnel as needed.
  2. Assigns duties to subordinate personnel; supervises employees for quality control purposes.
  3. Prepares work orders, prioritizes work assignments, and schedules work.
  4. Monitors repeat repairs.
  5. Coordinates and schedules fleet servicing as well as finalizes Hold Sheet for next day.
  6. Monitors the natural gas fueling system; documents activity and problems; prepares reports; secures leaks and reports to supervisor.
  7. Oversees repairs and scheduled maintenance for Call-A-Bus vehicles.
  8. Assists department personnel with repairs as needed.
  9. Requests building maintenance and repairs as needed.
  10. Update overtime files for accuracy
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:                                

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; Associates Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.

  1. Knowledge of engine operation and mechanics for a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  2. Knowledge of repair principles and procedures for gasoline- and diesel-powered engines.
  3. Knowledge of electrical system repair procedures.
  4. Knowledge of management and supervisory techniques.
  5. Skill in diagnosing mechanical problems for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  6. Skill in performing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
  7. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools used in repairing vehicles and small engines.
  8. Skill in the use of a computer.
  9. Skill in oral and written communication.

Physical Requirements: 

  1. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, as well as reaching for prolonged periods daily.
  2. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, balancing and crouching is required on a regular basis.
  3. Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, as well as computer use is required.
  4. The work is generally considered moderately physical work.
  5. Mental and visual attention is required to perform daily work dealing with recordkeeping, reviews, and interpreting data/reports.
