‘Rebuilding The County Workforce & Delivering Real Tax Relief’: County Legislature Passes 2022 County Budget with Bipartisan Support

After considering and adopting amendments from Republican and Democrat Legislators, the 2022budget was passed today on a bipartisan 13-4 vote.

Once finalized, the budget for the 2022 fiscal year lowers the county tax rate to $4.79 per thousand and reduced the property tax levy by $4,565,249. This is real tax relief in a time where inflation is raging, the economic toll of COVID-19 is still impacting residents, and Thanksgiving dinner is set to be more expensive than ever before.

Onondaga County Legislature Chair David Knapp

Residents will be able to look forward to significant and responsible tax relief without sacrificing services the county provides.

“This is the most important budget I have been a part of in my time as a Legislator,” noted Chairman David Knapp. “We knew from the outset that it was our responsibility to ease the burden on families, and we did just that.”

According to the Republican Caucus, “This budget rebuilds the County workforce, investing in every department across the county. Onondaga County is actively hiring for positions from entry level to highly skilled and is now armed with competitive salaries to hire workers in 2022. The Legislature’s commitment to providing for county residents, taxpayers and others, is unwavering and this budget is a direct indication of that.”
