County Legislators call for two more weeks of public input and review in Redistricting

Their statement comes as the redistricting commission is slated to meet Tuesday 10/19 at 10 am at the Legislature, 401 Montgomery St. Syracuse, NY – Floor Leader Linda Ervin and 5 other Legislators today, in agreement with The Post-Standard Editorial Board, called on the County’s Reapportionment Commission to slow down.

The public hearing schedule as it is set currently doesn’t provide enough time and isn’t accessible for the working people of Syracuse and Onondaga County to have their say.

By holding these public hearings during Early Voting for this year’s elections and by requiring the bi-partisan elections commissioners to attend, the reapportionment commission is interfering with their ability to hold free and fair elections.

Today Legislators Ervin, Ryan, Chase, Kinne, Williams, and Kuhn also called on the public to make their voice heard in this process and called on the media to cover the redistricting meetings.

“We hope the Reapportionment Commission will reconsider, move the schedule out two weeks until after the election, and allow the process to be open and transparent. Whatever happens, the people of Onondaga County should pay attention,” said Leader Linda Ervin.
