Jubilee Homes Transportation/Transit Career and Information Fair

On Friday October 15, 2021 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Jubilee Homes of Syracuse (JHS) in partnership with Onondaga County Jobs Plus and CNY Works invites you to attend our first Transportation/Transit Career and Information Fair at Clary Middle School located at 100 Amidon Drive in Syracuse, New York 13205.

JHS recognizes that as we navigate through these changing and challenging times, our commitment to assisting our community and invaluable workforce is critically important. Through our workforce and economic development programs, JHS assists employers having a trying time in finding work-ready employees and offers transportation services to employers with no access to public transportation.

Last week it became clear via our “Work Rides “program that we must act quickly to preserve our current workforce by creating partnerships to build and support public and private transportation resources on which workers within our community so heavily rely.  We have reached out to Centro, Syracuse City School District, First Student, Bernie Bus, City of Syracuse DPW, OCM BOCES, Urban Jobs Taskforce, Providence Transportation Services, and the Onondaga County Department of Economic Development to address this transportation crisis.  We have held three virtual meetings to date to discuss and seek solutions to these important transportation issues.  We have agreed to become allies to address how to (1) Fill the gaps left by the bus route changes; (2) Assist companies recruit Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) drivers; (3) Provide viable job candidates for open positions; and (4) Create a Transportation/Transit Think Tank; and (5) Hold the first in a series of Transportation/Transit Information and Career Fairs.

A Word from Our Partners …

CNY Works through its Career Center Team provides job seekers requiring training to attain their CDL Class A or B license with tuition assistance through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding.  In addition to training resources, the CNY Works Career Center Team provides job seekers with additional basic and individualized career services aimed at matching job seekers’ skills with employer’s job requirements.  For information, contact the CNY Works Career Center at 315-473-8250 or via e-mail to info@cnyworks.com.

Jobs Plus!: Is committed to breaking barriers for the Jobseekers we serve to ensure that they are able to obtain, and maintain, career ladder employment.  We provide assistance with childcare, transportation as well as other supportive services for the employment related activities of our Jobseekers.  JobsPlus! is committed to the success of our Employer Partners in terms of meeting their workforce goals through gaining a detailed understanding of their workforce needs and referring candidates with the appropriate skill sets.  We continue to work with our Employer Partners throughout the recruitment, screening and onboarding processes.  JobsPlus! is grateful for the opportunity to work with Jubilee Homes, CNY Works and all our Community Partners on this critical initiative.

Working together is the only way to overcome obstacles in the transportation/transit industry requires continual recruitment and training to produce qualified drivers and mechanics. We have all agreed to work toward that end.
