Syracuse, NY – Senator Rachel May (D-Onondaga, Madison, Oneida) is proud to announce two grants awarded to her district.
The first is DHS’s State Interoperable Communications Grant which enables local governments to communicate more effectively and efficiently during emergency response.
- DHS’s State Interoperable Communications Grant (these are awarded at the county level and are funded by cellular surcharge revenues):
- Madison is receiving $691,645;
- Oneida is receiving $781,082; and
- Onondaga is receiving $1,101,098
And the second is through the New York State Council on the Arts, which will increase access to vital arts funding and champion creativity in local communities. The Professional Development Grants for Museums support short and long-term professional development for museums across New York State. Museums may use funds for travel or registration to conferences or workshops within New York State, conference registrations out-of-state, online courses, specialized staff training, in-state travel for research, or to view exemplary programs and exhibitions within New York State. While all museums may apply for this grant, there is a focus on smaller museums not currently funded by NYSCA. This will be the sixth year of CNY Arts’ partnership with NYSCA on this program.
Council on the Arts’ Statewide Community Regrants Program: CNY Arts, Inc. is receiving $100,000 for professional development grants for museums.
Stephen Butler, Executive Director of CNY Arts said, “We are so pleased for the additional support secured by the State Legislature and to be able to partner with NYSCA in this time of recovery and renewal to help museums and our communities across New York State. We are appreciative of the support and leadership from Senator May for the arts and humanities.”

The investment in, and development of, local museum professionals will enhance the experiences of everyone who visits these repositories of knowledge and help these institutions build back from the pandemic.”
