Teens Arrested for Setting Multiple Fires within Hours of Each Other

On May 16th, 2021, at 3:58 A.M., the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire at 217 May Ave.  May 17th, at 12:49 A.M., again the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire this time at 1304 South Ave. While battling this fire, a Syracuse Firefighter sustained second-degree burns on his left arm. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

At around 2:23 A.M., the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a 3rd vacant house fire at 146 Glenwood Ave. While battling this blaze, Syracuse FireFighters were alerted to another vacant house fire at 131 Glenwood Ave. All four fires were determined to have been intentionally set.

During the investigation, information was developed that three suspects may have been involved. Two 17-year-old males and a 14-year-old female were subsequently located by Patrol Officers. Based on witness accounts and physical evidence, Syracuse Police Detectives determined that the three detained youths were responsible for all four fires. The males were responsible for all four, and the female was involved in three of the four. The following were arrested:

  • Male,17 of Syracuse, NY: Four counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, Four counts of Arson in the Third Degree, One count of Assault in the Second Degree and a violation of probation warrant.
  • Male 17, of Erie County NY: Four counts of Burglary in the Third Degree, Four counts Arson in the Third Degree and One count Assault in the Second Degree. The male was also a reported missing person from Erie County.
  • Female, 14 of Lockport NY: Three counts Burglary in the Third Degree, Three counts Arson in the Third Degree. The female was also a reported missing person from Lockport NY.

The males will be arraigned in Central Arraignment Part. The female was arraigned in Family Court and remanded to a secure detention facility. An investigation continues into their involvement in other incidents over the past week.
