Mayor Walsh Announces Winter COVID-19 Grant Awards to 23 Small Businesses in the City of Syracuse

Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced today that the Syracuse Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) awarded $150,000 in grants to help 23 small businesses in the City of Syracuse adapt to the challenges presented by COVID-19. The winter round of SEDCO COVID-19 grants will assist businesses in 13 different city neighborhoods.

“Just as many of our small businesses were regaining momentum, the change of seasons brought with it a resurgence of the COVID-19 virus and new threats to our business community. These SEDCO grants will help City businesses adapt to the challenges of pandemic in the winter months,” said Mayor Walsh. “Small businesses are the life blood of our local economy but they are also the most at risk from the impact of the pandemic. I’m grateful to the SEDCO board for answering the call once again.”

SEDCO’s awards will fund a wide range of investments by businesses, including: supplies, equipment and enclosures for outdoor dining; technology and marketing for takeout and online commerce; air purification, HVAC systems and UV lighting for air filtration and advanced sanitization; and personal protective equipment (PPE) for the safety of staff and customers. Awards ranged in size from $1,800 to $9,150.
