Heather Waters Enters Race for Onondaga County Legislator District 10

Fayetteville, New York – Heather Waters, Manlius Town Councilor, will be seeking the Democratic Party nomination for Onondaga County Legislator, 10th District. Waters has a 20-year track record of working with people of every political stripe in business, law, education, and the arts. She supports smart growth and invites more residents with young families and newcomers to participate in government.

Councilor Waters is running because she wants to “communicate how decisions made on the county level affect our daily lives.” She adds, “Economic challenges and the impact of the pandemic will be felt for years to come, and our district deserves a representative dedicated to collaboration and ushering good ideas forward.”

Councilor Waters works as an Assistant Dean for Advancement at Syracuse University. She serves on the Advisory Council of OCM BOCES Innovation Tech High School, and advocates alongside people with disabilities for employment opportunities. At the Town of Manlius, Waters represents more than 30,000 residents and serves as Co-chair of the Comprehensive Plan Committee, the Tree Commission, and is the liaison to the assessment, recreation, and planning departments. She authored the updates to the Town’s public meeting rules and launched the Open Podium public comment program. Waters also supports infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives. Born and raised in Onondaga County, Waters lives in Fayetteville with her husband, Sterling Waters, and their 8 year-old, Riley.

The Legislature is the chief policy-making body for Onondaga County. District 10 includes much of the Town of Manlius, including Fayetteville, Fremont, Kirkville, Minoa, and Manlius. The general election is November 2, 2021.

A virtual launch event for Waters’ campaign will take place in December. The event will be open to the public. Details and registration information will be available on www.electheatherwaters.com.
