Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse firefighters were very busy on the morning of Tuesday, November 17th. Shortly before 5:00 a.m. crews battled a major structure fire at 304 Village Drive in Eastwood. Just a few hours later, at 11:08, crews were called to 309 Chemung Street on Syracuse’s west side for a reported house fire. The first unit was on scene in three minutes, and found a fire on the second floor of the two-family dwelling.
The occupants were not home at the time. The fire was reported by a neighbor who had noticed smoke coming from the second floor porch. The blaze was brought under control in less than twenty minutes, and no injuries were reported.
The home was equipped with working smoke detectors. The American Red Cross will be assisting the occupants of the upstairs apartment with temporary shelter and other needs. The Syracuse Police Department, National Grid, and AMR also responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
