Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 8:58 p.m. on November 28, 2019 the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at 111 Newbury Hollow Drive. Engine Co. 8 and Truck 8 (2412 South Salina Street) were on the scene within 1 minute. Companies found a three story wood frame apartment building with smoke stains around the door frame of a ground floor apartment.
Truck 8 forcibly opened the locked door and located a fire in a bedroom. Engine 8 stretched a hand line into the apartment and extinguished the fire. Additional hand lines were stretched as back up lines. The Rescue Company searched for potential victims and the Squad Company assisted with ventilating smoke. The fire apartment was unoccupied, no victims were located.
Residents were alerted to the fire by the fire alarm system. Damage was contained to the bedroom. The Red Cross is assisting the residents of the fire apartment. The other apartments in the building were able to be re-occupied. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries reported. The Fire Department was on scene until 12:10 a.m. National Grid, AMR and the Syracuse Police Department were also on the scene.
