Syracuse City School District students will be recognized for helping to lower energy use in their school buildings through the Classroom Energy Challenge and KiloWatch programs.
Throughout the school year, students at Ed Smith, ELMS, Frazer, HW Smith and McKinley-Brighton have been participating in the KiloWatch and Classroom Energy Challenge programs, led by Energy Training Solutions, to learn about ways to lower energy consumption.
Students learned about, and helped promote, ways to save energy at school and at home, including using energy efficient lightbulbs, turning off appliances when not in use and more. Thanks to their efforts, their schools saved an estimated 130,000 kWh of electricity – about $13,000 in savings.
On June 11, the students will present a summary of the energy-saving activities they led within their school buildings. Media are invited to attend this KiloWatch Celebration, which will take place on Tuesday, June 11 at 9:00 am at the Syracuse City School District Professional Development Center (1005 West Fayette Street).
