Syracuse Fire Department Responds to Court Street Fire

Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 5:02 p.m. Friday April 12, the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 412 Court St. Within 2 minutes of dispatch, companies from Fire Station 2 (2300 Lodi St.) were on scene of the 2 ½ -story wood framed two-family dwelling. On their arrival, heavy smoke was coming out of three windows from the second floor apartment and heavy fire was showing from the rear of the structure. Firefighters initiated aggressive offensive operations to control the fire and search for potential victims.

Working smoke detectors were found throughout the structure. None of the occupants were home at the time of the fire. Fire investigators have determined the fire originated in the second-floor apartment rear bedroom and the cause is still under investigation.  One firefighter was transported by ambulance to a local emergency room where he was treated and released for an ankle injury. One civilian occupant sustained minor facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the dwelling.
