Bea Gonzalez of Syracuse works tirelessly for her community as President of the Syracuse Common Council and as Dean of University College at Syracuse University. Bea has been a champion of diversity achievement since she was a young girl growing up in Syracuse. As a community leader, Bea has shown her ability to not only lead in eliminating racism and empowering woman, she has lived it. Her dedication to diversity and human rights has rung loudly in everything she has done professionally, academically and in her community service.
In her current roles as President of the Common Council and Interim Dean of University College at Syracuse University she has worked to expand educational opportunities for students and citizens in Syracuse. Her actions have earned her a YWCA Diversity Achievers Award for 2007.
Gonzalez will join 22 others when they are inducted into this year’s YWCA’s Day of Commitment Luncheon, Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Convention Center at OnCenter in Syracuse.
Each year, the YWCA hopes their “Day of Commitment” Luncheon will bring together people working to eliminate racism and promote diversity in Central New York. The gathering serves as a yearly barometer of progress toward their goal. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences, efforts and accomplishments in the battle of breaking down prejudices.
YWCA’s Day of Commitment begins at 8:30 AM with three diversity workshops. The YWCA Day of Commitment Luncheon begins at noon, (registration opens at 11:30 am), at The Convention Center at OnCenter in Syracuse.
