15-Year-Old Suspect Arrested in Connection with March 5th Shot Fired in Destiny USA Atrium

On Saturday, March 5th, 2022, at around 6:48 P.M., Officers working at Destiny USA Mall heard at least one shot fired from the center atrium area, the area in the center of the mall. The mall immediately went into lockdown, and the area was searched.

Dozens of Officers responded including surrounding local, county and state agencies. When no active threat was located, the lockdown was lifted, and the mall was evacuated. The preliminary investigation reveals that there was a fight between several males in the Commons area of the mall, located at the lowest level in the center of the mall.

During the fight, one male discharged a firearm that he possessed. At least one round was shot and a window at DSW shoe store was struck by gunfire. The suspect and the others involved fled the scene.

A suspect in this incident was identified as a 15-year-old male. This suspect is accused of firing a gunshot in the mall common area during a dispute with another male. The suspect was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and lodged at Hillbrook.

There were no injuries reported. This was not an active shooter incident.
